CPTED stands for Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.
It is a concept aimed at preventing crimes through the intentional design of the exterior, buildings, and sensitive areas. Crime Prevention by Design is an original agenda for manipulating the environment to create safer neighborhoods. It is based on the fundamental idea that the proper design and management of the physical environment can deter crime in a particular area.
CPTED is primarily a delay tactic, a method of distraction, or a disruption factor for potential offenders or criminals. It has proven to be an effective method for combating crime and attacks, which also strongly follows the risk management approach ISO 31000:2018. CPTED consists of five basic elements:
Additionally, local conditions, the culture of the country, and the lifestyle of the resident population play an important role. Terrain and weather conditions are also considered, to name just a few of the key factors.
The independent review of operational requirements for access protection concepts by Blue Risk IQ
Our audit program, AuditSELECT, which was specifically developed for the protection of critical infrastructure (KRITIS Framework Act), is also applied in the physical security concepts of public spaces, city festivals, public viewing events, and Christmas markets.
Strengthening the resilience of public areas is achievable with the right multidisciplinary approach. We have extensive national and international experience in this field and can therefore make a valuable contribution to public safety. We offer consulting services on threat prevention.
With AuditSELECT from Blue Risk IQ, vulnerabilities are identified early, reducing potential damage, and the cause-and-effect relationships of security concepts are explained to event organizers and/or municipal authorities.
By using measures such as vehicle security barriers, the overall risk can be demonstrably reduced many times over, while also conveying a sense of safety. The primary goal in this example is to reduce the attractiveness of attacks.
We advise you on suitable security solutions that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional – from permanently installed or mobile barrier concepts to robust solutions that simultaneously meet legal requirements for emergency access routes.
Our approach is based on the EU standard (CEN) CEN/TS 14383-2:2022 and many years of experience from Australia and Indonesia, where CPTED has long been used to counteract “vehicle-borne attacks,” and offender profiling is an integral part of “crowd-watching.” This method is also employed in the USA and the UK to mitigate risks to a manageable level.
We are always here to assist you with the right solutions!
In this course by Blue Risk IQ, you will learn how to use CPTED and the basic principles of criminal psychology to make properties and events more resilient with “Security by Design.”
This training is essential for professionals conducting risk assessments, auditing CPTED, or planning security zones.
Upon request, we offer in-house training sessions starting with a minimum of 5 participants. This course is exclusively available through Blue Risk IQ and is conducted in collaboration with the WSD Academy. Participants will receive a certificate confirming the knowledge acquired.
